Students of Pierre Mion
Exhibit Runs until October 21

The opening reception for the Students of Pierre Mion Exhibit took place October 2. This show consists of watercolor pieces produced under the instruction of Pierre Mion by many of his students over a two year time period. Students of Pierre often comment about his professionalism as well as his teaching expertise. He models for his students, he coaches them and he works with them to produce an end result that is beyond their expectations. Even with his background and experience his students never feel intimidated by him. This is truly one of the finest exhibits that Pagosa Springs has had to offer. This is the final PSAC exhibit of the 2008 season and will run until October 21. The gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday from Noon to 4:00 pm.

Pagosa Mountain Hospital Art Exhibit and Open House
The opening of the Four Corners Juried Art Competition Thursday, September 18, was a resounding success and we would like to thank everyone for doing their part in making this happen. An estimated 500 patrons attended the catered reception. The hospital board is extremely supportive of this effort to place art in the hospital. Having their second Open House alongside the PSAC exhibit opening is probably the single most important factor that made the night so special. Thank you to CEO Bradley Cochenne, Michelle Visel and the hospital board.  Michelle continues to work tirelessly to improve the Pagosa hospital from both the medical/management side, as well as with our art campaign. We would not be doing this at all if Michelle had not reached out to us to bring art into their space.

The following art pieces were sponsored: Fall Aspen by Bruce Andersen, Echo Basin by Kit Frost, Tranquil Moment by Maria Kolpin, Oak on Aspen by Lin Mattheis, Setting Sun on the Monuments by Linda Pampinella and Don’s Poppy by Barbara Rosner. Congratulations to them all!

Miscellaneous funds were also submitted to the Foundation for future use to buy more art and these funds will either go towards buying a more expensive piece of art or the outright buying of another piece.

We would also like to thank Cowboy Catering and John Graves who were both very important elements to this events’ success.

Finally, as this show runs for two months, we will continue to encourage sponsors and donors to come forward between now and November 18. We would love to have small donations from $1 and up and there are donation envelopes and a box at the hospital’s front reception area for your convenience. Thanks again everyone. GREAT JOB!

Summer Youth Art Camp Exhibit and Silent Auction

art camp auction
Students of the art camp have painted birdhouses during their last week of camp.

Summer Youth Art Camp students showed more than 30 painted birdhouses during the Youth Art Camp Exhibit and Silent Auction benefiting Habitat for Humanity on September 11. Local community supporters turned out in great number to bid on their favorite birdhouses while also viewing wonderful works of art by the teens of Pagosa Springs who attended the art camp. If you missed out on buying a birdhouse, don’t despair! You can still see them, as well as the students’ artwork, which is still available for purchase and viewing until September 30 at the Town Park Gallery.

Traditional and Contemporary Work
by Anna Lee Steed and Jana Parkes
The grounded, colorful landscapes and florals done in oil and acrylic by Anna Lee Steed are juxtaposed against the ethereal, spiritual oils of Jana Parkes in this spectacular exhibit. The exhibit will continue to hang in the Pagosa Springs Art Council’s Town Park Gallery until June 17, 2008.

anna lee steed Anna Lee Steed (right), daughter of Pagosa residents, Vic and Stevie Noblitt, exhibits in two California galleries and refers to herself as a “California Colorist.”  Anna Lee’s paintings are all about color, regardless of subject matter. They are sometimes realistic and other times more interpretive color studies.
Jana Parkes, a local resident of Pagosa Springs, will also be showing her artwork.  Jana’s paintings range from abstract expressionism to realism with many of them being what she calls ‘energy studies.’ “Many of my paintings feel like I am depicting various types of 'spiritual energy' through color, shape and movement.”  jana parker
